Pattern: Original fractal design.
Technique: Hand and machine stitched.
Medium: Hand dyed and commercially printed cotton fabric.
This is the first fractal quilt I constructed. Black, grey and white with a splash of red is a classic colour combination and gave me the opportunity to experiment with technique. Despite the colouring many viewers see an underwater scene with coral fronds.
Machine quilted stippling is stitched all around the fractal fronds.
The hand dyed red cotton fractal fronds are hand appliquéd onto the pieced background. Shadows are drawn in with marker pen. Red chenille yarn is couched on top of the fractal fronds.
Each of the bobbles are hand dyed cotton stuffed with cotton stuffing, gathered at the back and stitched down. The lines are machine quilted with metallic thread. Satin stitch is used to thicken the lines.
