Pattern: Original fractal design.

Medium: Hand dyed fabrics.
Oatlands Plantation was about five miles from my home in Virginia. For many years they held an art exhibition and this was my entry for 2000. Each square represents a season of the year.
Spring: the dark brown area has a gathered section appliquéd to a self-coloured background. This gives a 3-dimensional effect.
Summer: the curved pieces are outlined with quilting stitches close to the seam - this is known as stitch-in-the-ditch. Underneath the seam allowance is ironed in one direction - the quilting stitches are on the free side allowing for less layers of fabric to quilt through.
Autumn: each piece is individually created, bound, and stitched onto a batik sashing.
Winter: each curved piece of hand dyed fabric is seamed together by hand with a running stitch.
