Made in response to Covid 19.
The piece is in 2 sections. The White Rose is done with bead weaving using peyote stitch. Shaped by increasing/decreasing and alternating different bead sizes and shapes. It is stitched over half a Styrofoam ball. Each petal is individually stitched in a round onto the base.

The ladybug is stitched separately and then basted down onto the Rose. The spider is made with glass beads and wire. The caterpillar is made with glass pearls, and seed beads.
There are Crystal bead water drops scattered over the Rose.

Once stitched down the White Rose is 3-dimensional and the petals all stand upright and separate.
The White Rose is stitched down to the bead embroidered base.
Unfinished bead embroidered background
The base is embroidered in a muted, dark range of greens, browns and blues. It is separated out into fans, centering on the White Rose. Each fan shows a sampling of various styles of bead embroidery.
This results in an almost monochromatic background which lifts the White Rose upwards.
Materials used: Japanese glass seed beads, Czech glass seed and shaped beads, acrylic cabochons, natural stone, freshwater pearls, crystals, glass pearls, glass cabochon, shaped glass beads, glass hex beads.
Techniques used: peyote and herringbone bead weaving, bead embroidery.
The piece is backed with Ultrasuede. A 6 inch square thin slice of wood is sandwiched between the top and bottom layers to keep it rigid.
